What is the weather / climate around Greek seas?

Greece has a warm Mediterranean climate. Summers in the lowlands are hot and dry with clear skies. The mountain areas are much cooler, with considerable rain in winter. The weather in the Greek Islands is generally beautiful with cloudless blue skies, especially in summer.

Summer weather in the islands begins in May with daily highs in the mid-20s. By July the daytime temperature is often in the 30s. July and August are the peak summer months, and temperature will rarely drop below 20°C even at night. Fortunately the islands are relieved by the cooling “Meltemi” winds – sea breezes that blow from the north and north-west./

The winds are strongest in July and August when they are needed the most. Mid-May to Mid-September is very dry, while July and August are unlikely to see any rainfall at all. Winters are mild and wet – somewhat akin to an English spring. Temperature will generally be in the low to mid-teens, although a sunny day can sometimes see the temperature creep up towards 20°C.

When is the best period for sailing?

Every month from April to November is perfect for Sailing Greece and can be enjoyed to the full with our catamarans. During the warm months, you can enjoy more swimming, while in the cooler but calmer months you can enjoy the quietness the islands have to offer and the unknown surprises a trip can throw up as you discover the local’s lifestyle up close. During low season guests can enjoy the experience by taking advantage of the relatively lower rates. Also, this is the best time for fishing.

Why catamarans?

Catamarans combine the perfect mix of sailing, comfort, and social space. These types of yachts are stable and spacious offering fantastic space, making them ideal for friends and families looking to relax and spend time together on the water.

Catamarans are more stable than a monohull and as such, they do not bang back and forth in swells. This way the guests’ cruisers can eat, sleep and experience the boat and its motion and activities undisturbed and level, and in general enjoy life much more.

Catamarans are much wider than monohulls and therefore provide enormous spaces – cockpit, saloon, kitchen, sleeping cabins, etc. In warmer climates, this is an enormous plus because cruisers tend to spend the majority of their time dining, reading, and lounging in the cockpit under the protection of a wide bimini.

The main saloon of a catamaran is on the same level as the cockpit which makes the access easier without stairs. The view from the cockpit is also better in comparison to the monohulls, as it is situated high above the water. In the main saloon, guests remain intimately connected to the world outside. This makes dining, cooking, reading, lounging, and navigating far more pleasant.

Guests are far less vulnerable to seasickness because you have mostly fore and aft pitching, very little beam-to-beam motion, and both are with much shorter amplitudes.

Last but not least, it is much more comfortable to sleep on a boat that doesn’t heel.

While some say, that the biggest disadvantage of the cats is finding berths in crowded ports much harder, they forget that often catamarans can berth on shallow piers where no monohull can reach due to a much deeper draft.

The same goes for the amazing crystal clear bluewater bays, wherewith the catamaran you can safely enter much deeper towards shore and in shallower waters.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are most welcome!

Depending on the pet we might ask for a small extra fee, mostly to cover potential cleaning expenses.

How many people can the catamaran accommodate?

Both VENEZIA and BAHIA can host up to 10 adults comfortably, 8 in 4 comfortable double cabins with their en suite facilities. The other 2 can have single small cabins/forepeaks, that offer a unique boat life experience.

On BAHIA there are also 2 extra single beds in each hull, between the cabins, making the total allowed number of passengers to the maximum of 12 (twelve).

VENEZIA has also the license for 12, but there 2 persons must share the saloon or sleep on outside mattresses in the cockpit or net.

If the catamaran is damaged, who takes liability?

While the vessel is at sea children and anyone who doesn’t know how to swim who plans to use the outdoor areas of the catamaran (beyond the bounds of the outdoor saloon) must wear a life jacket and often a harness, attached to the boat.

It’s a common rule for sailing boats not to wear the same footwear on board like the one worn on land.

Outdoor deck areas are often wet so it is not recommended to stay barefoot. To avoid the risk of slipping and hurting oneself feet on sharp metal and similar objects, certain types of footwear are recommended for boats.

Starting from Crocs, stable slippers, flip flops, and coming to more expensive sneakers and special shoes for boats, mostly with soft soles.

Indoors, the catamaran has an oak floor, and outdoors – a teak one. While it may be very beautiful, it is also extremely sensitive.
Everything on a boat is in general smaller, softer, and more sensitive, mostly because it is designed to serve the same purposes as on land, but within much smaller spaces…
